Hi, I’m Heather!
Pleased to meet you!
For as long as I can remember, I have always loved to sing. I would sing everywhere, all the time, and I was always making up songs in my head. When I was about 5 I wrote down my first set of lyrics and sang my song with my cousins in a performance for our parents. When I was 6 I wrote my first instrumental piece. (Well, I memorized a melody I made up on a plastic monophonic keyboard toy I had.)
Any time I got the chance I would perform. I was in every choir, play, or orchestra production I could get into. Being up on stage, sharing my hard work with everyone, felt completely right to me. I loved being in front of an audience.
When I was 18 I went to the Cornish College of the Arts in downtown Seattle. College was tough. The pressure was intense, the workload was insane, and I had to get an almost-full time job to make ends meet. I was paying all my bills while I was in college. In 2013, I received my Bachelor’s of Music with a concentration in composing/performing.
Between my first and second years in college I met someone who would change my life forever. My boyfriend Justin almost sort of became my boyfriend by accident. I really wasn’t looking for love at the time. As cliche as it was, we are the perfect example of love finding you when you least expect it. We’ve had a lot of ups and downs as I graduated from college, both of us changed jobs multiple times, and we finally got a puppy that we both have loved to raise. Her name is Lilly and she is just about the most friendly Frenchton you will ever meet.
My life has recently gone through a series of twists and turns. In the beginning of 2017, I was the heaviest I’d ever been and was sinking into one of the deepest depressions of my life. I knew it was time to make a change, my spirit was completely imbued with desire and inspiration. I began taking small steps to get healthier every day. I started making a habit out of putting my health first. I’m happy to say I’ve been able to lose at least 12 pounds and keep it off.
Then I began working on personal development, and my mindset began to change as well. I felt more positive, more hopeful, and more focused on reaching my dreams. I asked myself what I really wanted in life and how I was going to achieve it. I learned about goal-achieving methods that have helped me change my attitude about what the future can hold. I felt like things were starting to fall into place.
In October 2017, my little family packed up and moved to Playas del Coco in Costa Rica. Living on the beach has been an absolute dream. Swimming has always been one of my favorite things to do and I love being able to go to the beach any time I want. We love having tourists stay with us and can turn you on to some great vacation services, so if you’re ever planning a trip to the area make sure to keep us in mind!
Shortly after moving here, we had the opportunity to rescue two small kittens that had been abandoned when our neighbor moved out of their home. We love all animals, and like to help animals in need as much as we can, so it was a great opportunity for us. We now have three furbabies. We call the white one Bug (on account of he’s so weird, haha) and the gray one Sugar.
I started blogging with my boyfriend, as a team venture, in the end of December 2016. It was a great experience to have a partner during the whole newbie learning process. Our blog is called Chefing Around and is all about delicious recipes you can make at home.
I loved working on this blog, but with Justin being the chef around here and our topics being so specific, I felt a little stifled in what I could contribute. I like to write about all different kinds of topics, including music, health, wellness, travel, beauty, style, and my life experiences, so I decided to create my own brand to share all of my knowledge, opinions, and thoughts with you!
This blog is less rigid, more loose. It’s all about us getting to know each other. It’s just you (the reader) and me. I hope you will find my ideas inspiring, my posts informational, and my entire website beneficial in helping you create your best life. Because in the end, we all strive for the same thing…
